ODLUMS CULTURAL QUARTER

Dublin, Ireland

The old Odlums mill in Dublin Port is set to become a new cultural landmark for the city, and a driver in the regeneration of the old port district into a new extension of the city.

Together with Foley Architects, Mendoza Partida Architects and AECOM, we were invited to submit proposals for how to adapt the existing structures on site, as well as propose new uses and new physical additions to the neighbourhood.

Our proposal treats the existing buildings as the heroes of the project, by restoring them and giving them visual promininence on the site. Menawhile, low new building additions add new programme and function to the site, housing visitor attractions as well as small studios with retail storefronts, to promote the manufacture and sale on site of arts and crafts items.

The large silo structure has the potential to be the icon of not only the project but of the whole port and as such we have proposed an addition of a glass volume on top, becoming a beacon at night and a fantastic vantage point for visitors. In the silo volume, we have housed a new museum, which makes use of the large interior volumes and the characteristic form of the building envelope.
